The Tampa Bay Rays won their first-ever playoff game on Thursday afternoon in Game 1 of their ALDS series, 6-4, against the Chicago White Sox. Rookie third baseman Evan Longoria went 3-for-3 with a pair of home runs and 3 RBIs. Starter James Shields pitched 6 1/3 innings for the Rays, allowing three runs on six hits. Dewayne Wise hit a three-run homer off Shields in the third inning, while Paul Konerko added Chicago's only other run with a solo home run to left field in the ninth. Javier Vazquez lasted just 4 1/3 innings, allowing six runs on eight hits.
