Jason Varitek's contract will run out at the end of the season. and it's not a lock that he'll return to the Red Sox next year, according to Providence Journal.

Varitek will be the Boston's highest-profile free agent this winter.

After some brief discussions in the spring, Varitek?s agent Scott Boras and Red Sox management haven?t discussed a new deal.

"I can?t say that," Varitek said recently when asked if he'd like to end his career as a member of the Red Sox. "I don?t know. I really don?t."
