The Kansas City Royals tonight announced they have reached an agreement with first round draft choice Eric Hosmer, the third overall selection in the 2008 First-Year Player Draft. Consistent with team policy, terms of the agreement were not disclosed.

?We are delighted to come to terms with Eric Hosmer. We felt that he was the best high school position player in the draft,? said Dayton Moore, Royals? senior vice president of baseball operations and general manager. ?I also have to recognize the support of David and Dan Glass, and the great work of our scouting staff, for helping to get Eric into our organization.?

A first baseman from American Heritage High School in Plantation, Fla., Hosmer, who bats and throws left handed, hit .470 with 11 homer runs, 27 RBI, 49 runs, and 14 stolen bases as a senior.

Hosmer participated in the Aflac All-American High School Baseball Classic in 2007 and was named the 2008 Player of the Year by the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Baseball America's 2008 draft preview rated Hosmer as the high school player with the best power as well as being the prep talent that is closest to the majors.
