Third baseman David Wright of the New York Mets will replace fan-elected starting outfielder Alfonso Soriano of the Chicago Cubs on the National League All-Star roster. N.L. All-Star manager Clint Hurdle of the Colorado Rockies made the announcement today in conjunction with Major League Baseball. Soriano, who is currently on the disabled list, is unable to play in the 2008 All-Star Game but will attend the festivities. Colorado Rockies' outfielder Matt Holliday, the All-Star reserve outfielder who received the highest vote total on the Player Ballot (461 votes), will replace Soriano as a starting outfielder for the National League. Wright, who had been a candidate in the Monster 2008 All-Star Final Vote, will be making his third consecutive appearance in the Midsummer Classic. Wright (.288, 17 HR, 70 RBI) was a fan-elected starter in 2006 and 2007.
