Prior to Tuesday?s game against the Phillies, the Red Sox placed Bartolo Colon on the 15-day disabled with back stiffness, according to a Yahoo.com report.

Colon suffered the injury when he swung and missed during an at-bat against Cole Hammels in the fourth inning in Monday?s loss.

To replace Colon on the roster, the Red Sox recalled reliever Chris Smith from Class AAA Pawtucket of the International League. The 27-year-old Smith, who has no major league experience, posted a 1.52 ERA with eight saves and 40 strikeouts in 41 1/3 innings at Pawtucket.
