Detroit's Sheffield: 'I'm Ready Now'

Gary Sheffield could be days away from his return to the field for the Tigers, according to The Detroit Free Press.

"I'm ready now," he said Sunday.

Manager Jim Leyland said Sheffield will likely remain with Class A Lakeland all week. If he stays on schedule, he may return as early as next Tuesday. He took batting practice Sunday and said afterward that he was able to swing comfortably.

"I moved around out there great," Sheffield said. "No setbacks or limitations."
