Cleveland's pitcher Aaron Laffey and Los Angeles' third baseman Blake Dewitt were named the rookies of the month for May. Laffey went 3-2 with a 0.79 ERA in his five May starts. In his 34.0 innings, he struck out 19 while allowing just 28 hits and seven walks. The 23-year-old left-hander went seven innings in each of his first four May starts and tossed six innings in his last outing in the month, allowing two runs or less in each appearance. In 26 games in May, the 22-year-old DeWitt batted .322 with five home runs and 18 RBI. The left-handed hitter went 28-for-87, scored 14 runs, hit two doubles, drew eight walks, and posted a slugging percentage of .517 and an on-base percentage of .379. DeWitt had at least one RBI in each of his last five games in May.
