Richie Sexson of the Seattle Mariners has been suspended for six games and fined an undisclosed amount for his violent and aggressive actions, which incited the bench-clearing incident during the bottom of the fourth inning of his Club?s game against the Texas Rangers last night at Safeco Field in Seattle. Bob Watson, Vice President of On-Field Operations for Major League Baseball, made the announcement. Sexson?s suspension had been scheduled to begin tonight, when the Mariners host the Chicago White Sox. However, he has elected to file an appeal. Thus, the discipline issued to him will be held in abeyance until the process is complete. In addition, Felix Hernandez of the Mariners and Gerald Laird and Sidney Ponson of the Rangers have been fined undisclosed amounts for their actions during the incident. |
