The Cardinals are in Toronto playing a three game set with the Blue Jays.

Monday night?s game was a gem pitched by Toronto?s Roy Halladay who improved his record to 10-3 while dominating the Cardinals hitters, resulting in a 4-1 loss for St. Louis. Jeff Suppan was the losing pitcher; his record is now 5-6. Suppan was a surpising 16 game winner last year, and the Cardinal fans are hoping he will return to his winning ways soon.

Halladay?s heroics aside, last night?s 7-0 Cardinal victory featured a stellar one-hit performance by St. Louis pitcher Chris Carpenter. Carpenter had once pitched for the Blue Jays, but was released when he injured his shoulder in 2002.

He was picked up by the Cardinals but did not pitch until 2004, where he was a crucial piece in the Cardinals 100 plus victories despite not being able to pitch in the post season. Ironically, last year, Matt Morris was supposed to be the staff ace, but Carpenter was clearly the best pitcher in the rotation and won 15 games before he was injured. And this year, his 9-4 record is the best of the Redbird arms despite Mark Mulder being named number one when the season began.

In addition, Larry Walker hit two homeruns after all but announcing his retirement at the end of the season on Monday. Albert Pujols also had a two-run homer, giving him 16 for the season. Tonight?s the rubber match, with the Cards off on Thursday before beginning a series in Tampa against the lowly Devil Rays.
