Only at Shea do you not need to shower before a game was the feeling when the sprinkler system unexpectedly turned on in the first inning of the finale to the Mets/Diamondbacks game on Thursday. Caught completely off guard was the grounds keeper who set them up in the first place.

This brings me to my original point, Pedro Martinez.

When most of the players were briskly jogging off the field, Pedro “chilled” and even took a sip of water. The game continued after a one and some odd minute sprinkler delay and Pedro wasted no time in getting three outs.

Of course there was a heart stopper early on in the top of the second when Clark homered off of Marintez.

No more said Pedro, and thus, there was no more. That didn’t go for the Mets though as the hit parade began in the 4th and continued in the 6th, with three runs in each. The only thing missing was a giant floating Woody the Woodpecker.

His magnificent outing was of course no surprise to Met fans, with numerous Dominican Flags waving in the bleachers. People were showing up just to witness the new Mets pitcher. Not since Fernandomania has such a craze taken place.

Beltran hit his 7th homer in the night, also being his seventh homer this season with Pedro on the mound. Pedro ended the night with nine strike outs, one shy of being his fourth game with ten or more strikeouts.

What the D’backs did wrong, the Mets did right.

In the top of the 6th Cameron ran back to the warning track, made a left, made a right, fell, then somehow, and according to him easily, made a spectacular replay reel play, only his second career standing ovation.

Even Matsui joined in on the fun bringing in a run and a much needed hit. The only downer was finding out that Koo had been placed on a fifteen day DL. The injury, a bruised rotator cuff brought on by a spectacular run off of Randy the now Flaccid Unit Johnson.

As I’ve said before, keep you’re eye on Pedro’s jerry curl, for when Samson takes the field again you can definitely expect a win.
