Many people have noticed this season that Mets short stop, Jose Reyes smiles not only when he rips a great triple down the center but when he strikes out as well, a friend of mine and long time Yankee enthusiast tried to explain to me the problem, “Reyes thinks it’s a game.”

People tend to forget that baseball is a game, and Reyes is one of the ones who hasn’t. Playing only his third year in the major leagues he already has a combined 196 hits including 37 doubles and 13 triples, with 7 already hit this year, one more than in his combined first two years.

Although this is only his first major year playing, the numbers are still impressive. Aside from being a young talented hitter he also shows signs of having a talent which only the few and the remembered share, running and running fast. With a career total of 42 stolen bases and only being caught 9 times, he shows the speed of Barry Allen (The Flash) but with the charisma of Jackie Robinson.

It might be a bit of an exaggeration of ability Jose Reyes does show signs of the great Robinson. On Wednesday’s game against the Diamondbacks, Reyes even played around with stealing home in the bottom of the 5th, of course only playing considering how stealing home is rarely or more in actuality never done anymore. That still didn’t mean Chris Snyder(C) didn’t get nervous. The Mets ended the night in a 2-1 victory with Reyes scoring half of the Mets runs. Aside from the great Jackie, Reyes more than anything shows signs of another fellow Met, Mookie Wilson. Time and time again Reyes has been in scoring position however he has never been given the opportunity. So far this season Reyes has seen third base more often than a pizza delivery boy in a late feature on Cinemax. This season the Mets can look forward to seeing some great plays by the new shortstop, especially with the other new guy, David Wright, playing not far away in third. Between them there have been a combined 56 runs this season and 49 RBI’s. As long as Looper fights of the dreaded curse of the Benitez, the Mets should not have any problems making it to the playoffs this season. That is wear the Amazin’s will really show off their abilities, seeing if we do actually make it there. It’s not being skeptical if you’re a Mets fan.
