When the Dodgers acquired starting pitcher Jae Seo from the New York Mets during the off-season, the club was set to make him the final piece in the rotation. He struggled in his first couple of starts going winless at 0-2, but that finally changed as Seo and the Dodgers beat the San Diego Padres 3-0.
Seo allowed no runs on just two hits. The bullpen had plenty to offer Seo in his first win as a Dodger. They all combined for a two hitter, while both hits of the game were charged to Seo. Pads’ pitcher Chris Young was just as good as he gave up one earned on five hits, although he received the loss.
The starting pitching from both teams was excellent until Los Angeles posted the first run of the game in the fifth. With 1B Nomar Garciaparra on second, the struggling C Dioner Navarro punched a single to left for the 1-0 lead.
San Diego couldn’t get anything going in terms of scoring and were baffled by Seo’s pitching. The one-run lead for the Dodgers changed in the top of the eighth as the hot hitting RF J.D. Drew would deliver two more runs, scoring SS Rafael Furcal and CF Kenny Lofton on a single up the middle.
Danys Baez was able to close it out in the ninth for his seventh save of the season to put the Dodgers within one game of being at .500.
Final Score: Dodgers 3, Padres 0
