Game Recap #17. Angels 3, Athletics 5

The Angels headed over to Oakland for a three game series against their division rival Athletics. Going into the game you knew it would be a pitchers duel. The game was ugly, but not for that reason. The Angels pitching staff walked 10 batters, just handing Oakland the game.

John Lackey took the mound for the halos and was a bit wild. Lackey walked a total of seven batters in just five innings pitched. Other than his seven walks, he only allowed two hits.

Big John left the game in a tie ball game. Relieving him would be lefty J.C. Romero. Romero would pitch two innings walking one batter. He gave up a two-run homer to Eric Chavez giving them a one run lead. Esteban Yan would substitute for Romero. Yan pitched the 8th inning, walked two more batters, and allowed one more run.

Walks absolutely destroyed the Angels tonight! A total of ten batters were walked. Mike Scioscia and Bud Black are definitely going to have a talk with the pitchers. The Angels don?t score many runs and cannot afford to just hand the other team the game by giving up walks.

The Angels offense had its bright spots, but for the most part, Rich Harden shut them down. Chone Figgins and Garret Anderson each had two hits. Anderson hit his third homerun of the season in the top of the sixth inning off of Harden.

A very upsetting loss this was. The Angels had the game within reach but let the A?s walk all over them ? pun intended. The Angels will send Jeff Weaver to the mound tomorrow in hopes of getting back to .500.

Player of the game: Garret Anderson ? GA went 2 for 4, 1 HR, 2 RBI, and 1 run scored.

Disappointment ? Angels Pitching ? The staff walked 10 batters!

Next game: April 22nd, Saturday vs. Oakland Athletics

On the mound: Jeff Weaver (0-2, 5.12 ERA) vs. Dan Haren (0-1, 5.40 ERA)

Angels record: 8-9
