Game Recap #14. Angels 8, Twins 2

Kelvim Escobar razzled and dazzled the Twins on Tuesday. Escobar gave the Angels their best start all season by striking out 10 batters in just 6 2/3 innings. While Escobar supplied the pitching, Chone Figgins carried the offense. Put the two together, and you have an 8-2 win.

It was a great win for the Angels as they had previously lost four out of the last five games they played. Kelvim Escobar showed a tremendous amount of confidence on the mound. Striking out a remarkable 10 batters in just 6 2/3 innings proves it.

Escobar’s performance dropped his ERA to .371, second best for a starter on the Angels team. Winning this game gives Escobar his second win on the season tying him for the team lead with John Lackey.

J.C. Romero came in the game to finish off the seventh inning against his former team. He walked Luis Castillo, but got Joe Mauer to fly out to deep center on the next at bat. Romero winded up with his 3rd hold of the season.

Scot Shields closed out the 8th and 9th innings, giving him his first save of the year. He retired all six batters in a row and recorded two strikeouts.

Chone Figgins definitely “Got Figgy wit’ it”. Figgins went 3 for 5 with 3 RBI raising his average to .286. Orlando Cabrera also provided a punch for the offense. O-Cab also went 3 for 5. He didn’t have a homerun like Figgins but he did have 2 RBI.

The Angels face the Minnesota Twins for game two of the three game series on Wednesday. Angels are hopeful to get back over the .500 mark with another victory.

Player of the game: Chone Figgins – Figgins had 3 hits in 5 at bats. One of the three hits was a two run homer. He had 2 runs scored and 3 RBI.

Disappointment – Vladimir Guerrero – Guerrero went 0 for 5! Going hitless in game one of the Twins series drops his batting average down to .389.

Next game: April 19th, Wednesday vs. Minnesota Twins

On the mound: Ervin Santana (1-0, 3.55 ERA) vs. Kyle Lohse (1-1, 8.44 ERA)

Angels record: 7-7
