The 40 year old workhorse, Greg Maddux, was nearly unhittable tonight against the Dodgers, allowing just one run through eight innings. Maddux received his third win of the season as the Chicago Cubs went on to win the game, 4-1.
Chicago?s 2B Todd Walker hit his second home run of the year, an opposite field shot off Bret Tomko in the first inning, giving the Cubs the early lead. Tomko?s night worsened in the fifth inning after the Cubs would score three more runs.
Maddux helped his own cause when he singled to center, scoring LF Matt Murton, with SS Ronny Cedeno still aboard. Cedeno then scored the second run of the inning on an error by 3B Bill Mueller. The final run the Cubs would score in the game was a sacrifice fly by Walker, as Maddux would tag.
Los Angeles? only run of the night came on a double to left by Mueller, which scored RF J.D. Drew. Jeff Kent?s absence probably made matters worse for the Dodgers, as they displayed another weak offense with just three hits. Oscar Robles was called up to replace Kent for the time being, until the second baseman recuperates from a mild concussion.
Final Score: Dodgers 1, Cubs 4
