Rain forced a two hour delay to the game, but finally as it began to stop, Brad Penny took the mound and allowed only one run through six innings.
LF Barry Bonds was of course welcomed to Los Angeles with boos coming from all over the stadium, but the Giants would have the last laugh in the end.
The first three innings of play went unheard as both starting pitchers were on their game. Finally in the Giants fourth, RF Randy Winn received a fastball and homered to right field, barely missing the glove of RF J.D. Drew.
Just as Penny was on his game, so too was Giants pitcher Jamey Wright as he went eight strong innings, allowing just a run and five hits. His dominance came from a nasty slider he threw, confusing most of the Dodger players.
2B Jeff Kent came to the plate in the bottom of the sixth and smacked the ball over the center field fence for a home run. This was his first of the season, and it tied the game at one. Los Angeles used relievers Tim Hamulack and Takashi Saito, both of whom pitched effectively.
But Hong-Chih Kuo gave up a sacrifice fly in the ninth to 2B Ray Durham, which would score the winning run in SS Omar Vizquel.
Final Score: Dodgers 1, Giants 2
Game Notes- Kenny Lofton was activated from the disabled list, but didn’t start last night because of the weather issues. Terrible news hit the bullpen also, as RP Yhency Brazoban will miss the rest of the 2006 season with Tommy John surgery.
