Game Recap #7. Angels 5, Rangers 2

The Angels got another quality start, this time from John Lackey. Lackey went a strong seven innings, striking out eight batters. Halos played their offensive style of baseball; no homeruns. Instead of hitting the long ball, the Angels stole bases and hit weak fly balls, supplying Lackey with enough run support to close out the win.

John Lackey pitched a solid game. He showed good command of his pitches striking out eight batters in seven innings, only giving up two runs. Really the only mistake he made tonight was to Phil Nevin in the top of the 1st inning, who smashed the ball into the right field stands.

Who do you think is leading the Angels in stolen bases? Chone Figgins? Nope. Actually, it?s Orlando Cabrera. Cabrera is off to a great start offensively this season. He has smashed two homeruns, drove in seven runs, scored five times, stole three bases, and is hitting .370.

The Angels got a lot of rbi?s in this game off of lazy fly balls, falling right between the infielders and the outfielders, but who cares? I know John Lackey doesn?t. A win is a win, and with a power-less offense, the Angels will take runs anyway they can get them.

Chone Figgins went 2 for 4 with two runs scored, and also hitting an RBI triple.

The bullpen is just filthy. It?s easily one of the best, if not the best, bullpens in all of baseball. Tonight the bullpen pitched two shutout innings. Scot Shields pitched the eight inning getting a hold while K-Rod came in the 9th to pick up his 4th save of the season.

Player of the game: John Lackey ? Lackey picked up his first win of the season with a strong outing. He went seven innings, striking out eight batters.

Disappointment ? Casey Kotchman ? Casey seems to be in a big slump to open the season. Today against the Texas Rangers, Kotchman went 0 for 4 putting his batting average at .174.

Next game: April 11th, Tuesday vs. Texas Rangers

On the mound: Jeff Weaver (0-1, 7.11 ERA) vs. Rick Bauer (0-0, 3.00 ERA)

Angels record: 4-3
