After a near 2 month dormancy, Angels General Manager Bill Stoneman signed Jeff Weaver to a one year 8, 325, 000 deal on Wednesday. Jeff Weaver, 29, will join his younger brother, Jered, in the Angels organization in hopes of a 3rd straight postseason appearance.
Weaver pitched for the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2005 and pitched well over 200 innings. Had he been on a playoff team he would’ve posted much closer to 20 wins, rather than his 14-11 record.
Jeff is figured to be penciled in as the number four starter behind Kelvim Escobar, John Lackey, and Cy Young award winner, Bartolo Colon. Second year pitcher Ervin Santana will complete the five man rotation.
The signing of Jeff Weaver will give the Angels a much-needed workhorse to help keep the bullpen arms fresh. Hector Carrasco, who was competing for the 5th spot in the rotation, will now slide back into the bullpen aiding Scot Shields and Francisco “K-Rod” Rodriguez. |
