The Cardinals took two out of three from the Los Angeles Dodgers over the weekend. This West Coast swing was successful as St. Louis returns to Busch Stadium winning four out of six games.

Matt Morris was the losing pitcher on Friday night. His record is 11-4.

On Saturday, the Redbirds bounced back as Jeff Suppan pitched the Cardinals to a 9-4 victory ? beating up Derek Lowe and upping his record to 10-7. Sunday?s marathon of a game was a tale of a bullpen letdown for Mark Mulder.

Left-handed reliever Ray King surrendered a two-run lead, leaving a no decision for Mulder (12-5). Cal Eldred earned the win ? he masterfully pitched himself out of a jam in the late innings setting Jason Isringhausen up for his 29th save in the eleventh.

This series saw gutty play from David Eckstein who appeared to be all but knocked out of Saturday?s game before cranking a double that ignited the team?s offense for the rest of the series.

Mark Grudzielanek?s bat came to life as did Jim Edmonds? -- whose homerun gave the Cards the lead in the top of the eleventh. On the Pujols watch: AP is now batting .343 with 28 homeruns and 84 RBI.

The most surprising addition this season has been Abraham Nunez. I have said it before, but it is worth repeating ? what a find! I suppose everyone was so worried that the Cardinals wouldn?t recover from losing Renteria and Womack that nobody bothered to see any value in having Abraham Nunez. He continues to ease the pain of losing Scott Rolen? he is batting .324 and playing a solid third base.

The Cardinals open up a series against the Florida Marlins tonight.
