An injury to Cecil Fielder led to the Yankees sending Tony Armas Jr. to the Red Sox for Mike Stanley. Armas was eventually included in the Boston trade for Pedro Martinez.

While this signing was a case of opportunity, handing out this type of contract for Prince Fielder may prove to be a mistake down the line.
