Return to MLB Prospect index

The Mets have had a strong hold in the Latin America market for several seasons now and that really hasn't changed as Fernando Martinez remains their top prospect, though I see Wilmer Flores and Jefry Marte gaining on him in some respects.

Omar Minaya also has some promising prospects that they acquired via the draft in Reese Havens and Brad Holt.

The Mets have had solid success in the draft since 2001 with first rounders David Wright, Scott Kazmir, Mike Pelfrey, Lastings Milledge and Aaron Heilman all being regular big leaguers, though of course in varying degrees of success.

Top Mets Prospects

1. Fernando Martinez - CF

Fernando Martinez has been the Mets' top prospect since 2007 and still projects as a potential five-tool star, but must stay healthy.

2. Wilmer Flores - SS

Wilmer Flores is mashing the ball at such a young age to suggest he could be up in the bigs by the time he's 20. He has great size and a cannon for an arm, though he will likely move out of shortstop.

3. Jefry Marte - 3B

Jefry Marte has remarkable bat speed and power and will only get better as he matures and begins using all fields.

4. Brad Holt - RHP

Brad Holt has an excellent fastball and a great strikeout rate, but he must develop secondary pitches in order to bring that success to New York.

5. Reese Havens - SS

Reese Havens has an excellent approach and fundamentals at the plate and could conceivably catch, though he is likely to be a second baseman.
