2010 Season Preview: Arizona Diamondbacks
Arizona's excellent young core has gone from 'darlings on the verge' to 'loaded with question marks' in a span of about 550 days. The 2010 season can becoe their return.

2010 Season Preview: Texas Rangers
The Rangers should be competitive again and also better offensively with a healthy Josh Hamilton and Vladimir Guerrero, but their pitching staff is probably one season away.

2010 Season Preview: Toronto Blue Jays
JP Riccardi and Roy Halladay are out. Alex Anthopoulos is in and though the Jays absolutely won't be in the playoffs, their rebuilding efforts may be shorter than expected.

The Brilliant Moves Of Jack Zduriencik
Jack Zduriencik would probably be a household name in Seattle by now, if anyone knew how to spell it. He gave the Mariners another great offseason and they should be AL West contenders

Grading The Deal: Mets Give Fans Gift In Bay
The Mets badly needed to make a major move this winter. The addition of Jason Bay, along with a healthy lineup, could mean a bounce-back season.

The two team statistics I examine most closely to determine long term success are OPS and ERA. Teams that are amongst the top-10 in each of these categories tend to always play meaningful baseball in September and October, while teams that struggle in one or both are typically sellers in late July.

Win-loss records and run differentials certainly are the ultimate indicator of true success, but they can be flukish and over time the OPS and ERA should fall in line with the actual story and objectively identify good, bad and average teams.

I have named this system Opsera, which sounds like a real word and doesn't leave much to the imagination in the way of meaning. It is extremely simple; I take each team's total OPS, move the decimal point one place to the right and then just subtract their respective ERAs.
