Albert Pujols and Tim Lincecum are firmly embedded as the top-two players in our rankings, but Justin Morneau, Dan Haren and Chase Utley aren't too far behind.

CLASSICS:

Is there an objective way to determine the best franchises of all-time beyond World Series championships? Using the Opsera system, which is a statistic that takes both OPS and ERA into account, we get a definitive list.

Many of the top teams on the below list played many of their seasons when the MLB consisted of just 16 teams. A team that was ranked last in the MLB in 1920 would have a ranking of 16th, whereas a team ranked last in 2008 would be ranked 30th and therefore the average is adversely affected. But the teams that have been around the longest, also deserve top billing on the below list.

(Average annual ranking)

1. New York Yankees: 6.5
2. Los Angeles Dodgers: 7.9
3. San Francisco Giants: 8.3
4. Boston Red Sox: 8.8
5. St. Louis Cardinals 9.1
6. Cincinnati Reds: 10.1
7. Cleveland Indians: 10.6
8. Atlanta Braves: 10.7
9. Chicago Cubs: 10.7
10. Chicago White Sox: 10.8
