STANDING 10:
Breaking Down The 2009 Free Agent Class
There will definitely be no A-Rod World Series opt out announcement and it is unlikely that a near $100M deal will be hashed out at a fast food restaurant, but the free agent class for 2009 contains a whole host of current All-Stars, former All-Stars, salvage cases and at least one future Hall of Famer.

TEAM RANKINGS:
The Final MLB Team Rankings For 2008

With two recent expansion teams finishing in the top four this season, Major League Baseball is wasting no time in projecting this success as a reason for expansion.

“I can find no better reason to further the cause of Major League Baseball expansion than the success of the Arizona Diamondbacks and the Colorado Rockies.” This coming from a recent press conference staring the man voted “sexiest commissioner in sports” Bud Selig.

The Colorado Rockies came into the League in 1993 with the Arizona Diamondbacks first season being in 1998. After more than a few lackluster years, prompting many Rockies and Diamondback fans to stop attending games (that is, until they realized they qualified for the playoffs), both teams made significant runs toward a World Series Championship in 2007.

Many experts have warned that expansion paired with the redundancy of a 162-game season has created a lack of fan interest. The experts also talk about many of the games lasting in excess of 4 hours, the rampant steroid use and the many matches where the pitcher constantly throws to first base to keep a base runner honest.

Selig was not deterred adding, “We have already scouted out a few new locations where we plan to bring our fans the joy of Major League Baseball. City officials have already committed to build stadiums regardless of whether or not the new stadium fails to pass a first, second or third vote by the citizens. Our targets include, but are not limited to, Albuquerque NM, Flint MI, Minot ND, Kent WA, Moscow ID, Moscow Russia, and we are prepared to set up another team in Tampa Bay FL.”
