Chris Sale of the Chicago White Sox and Miguel Cabrera of the Detroit Tigers are featured in Friday's matchup. Voting will extend through June 30.

Sale, 25, might be the best young pitcher most casual fans have missed out on. An All-Star the last two seasons, the left-hander finished sixth and fifth in the American League Cy Young voting in 2012 and 2013, respectively. In five seasons, Sale has not finished with an ERA above 3.07. As a reliever in 2010, his first campaign, he averaged 12.3 strikeouts per nine innings.

His strikeout rate has diminished since becoming a member of the starting rotation, but he has still been extremely effective. Sale pitched 214.1 innings last season, totaling 226 strikeouts and four complete games. He allowed 23 home runs, but ranked third in the AL in WHIP (1.073). Only Hisashi Iwakuma ranked higher among pitchers in AL WAR last year.

Over 12 seasons, Cabrera is a .321/.398/.568 hitter. He has won the last two AL MVP awards and has been named to eight All-Star teams. At just 31, Cabrera has 377 home runs and 1,312 RBIs during his time with the Florida Marlins and Detroit Tigers.

Never considered a strong defender, Cabrera has been negative in dWAR in each of his full seasons. He's at +0.1 early on in 2014, but is still about as valuable a player as you'll find in Major League Baseball. He has ranked among the top 10 players (AL) in WAR in each of the last four seasons and sits eleventh among all active players (57.1). He's also remarkably durable. He has played in at least 148 games in each of his full seasons.
