RealGM Analysis
The Opsera is a statistic RealGM Executive Editor Chris Reina created in order to objectively rank teams by how well they hit (OPS) and pitch (ERA).
In order to determine the Opsera rating for each, we take their OPS, multiply that number by 10 to move the decimal point over one place to the right and then subtract their ERA from that number.
All statistics are through Wednesday, Sept. 11.
Rankings from last week are in parenthesizes.
1. (1) Detroit Tigers – 4.20
The Tigers are one of only two teams that rank among the top-eight in both OPS and ERA. The other team sits seventh in our rankings this week.
2. (2) Boston Red Sox – 4.13
Boston is running away with the AL East and has the highest run differential in baseball.
3. (3) Atlanta Braves – 4.05
The Braves have just four wins in their last 10 games, but remain on cruise control. They could lose out and still win the NL East.
4. (4) Los Angeles Dodgers – 4.04
They have cooled off, but the Dodgers remain a dangerous playoff foe with the one-two pitching punch of Clayton Kershaw and Zack Greinke.
5. (6) Cincinnati Reds – 3.87
The Reds are going to make the playoffs, but a one-game playoff won't be enough to satisfy them.
