Dustin Pedroia To Have MRI On Injured Wrist

May 30, 2017 7:53 AM

Dustin Pedroia left Monday's game with a sprained left wrist.

He tumbled over Chicago White Sox first baseman Jose Abreu while running out a groundout in the first inning and landed awkwardly on his wrists.

"I think anytime you're dealing with a position player’s wrist, a hitter’s wrist, that’s always cause for concern," John Farrell said.

X-rays immediately taken in Chicago were negative, according to the Boston Red Sox, but he is being sent back to Boston to get an MRI.

"He feels he knows those guys, they know him well, so we felt it would be more comfortable for him to do that," Dave Dombrowski said. "He wanted to do that too because he knows those guys so well. We could have gotten an MRI here and had people read it but he just knows the people there so well. We figured he wanted to do that, so we said, 'Sure, we’ll fly you there and get the MRI done there.'"

Mike Trout Expected To Miss 6-8 Weeks With Thumb Injury

May 31, 2017 8:42 AM

Mike Trout is on the disabled list for the first time in his career and will have surgery Wednesday to repair the UCL in his left thumb.

The usual timetable for the injury is six to eight weeks.

"It's definitely the best course of action for him right now, and I think he's comfortable with the decision," Mike Scioscia said.

The Los Angeles Angels lost Andrelton Simmons to a similar thumb injury last season. He had surgery and was out slightly over five weeks.

Trout, 25, suffered the injury Sunday on a headfirst slide while trying to steal second base.

Ryan Braun Likely Headed Back To Disabled List

May 26, 2017 11:12 AM

Ryan Braun is expected to be headed back to the 10-day disabled list, just days after the Milwaukee Brewers activated him.

Braun left Thursday's game because of left calf tightness. He had just returned on Sunday after battling a left calf strain.

"It's the calf again, and he's most likely headed to the DL again," Craig Counsell said.

Braun made a running catch of a fly ball to left in the third inning, and then Jesus Aguilar pinch hit for him in the fourth.

"Same calf, same situation," Braun said. "I knew when I came back that I wasn't at 100 percent, but it was good enough that I was optimistic I'd be able to work through it. It just kind of grabbed on me when I ran to catch that popup."

David Price, Red Sox To Meet After Latest Rehab Start

May 26, 2017 11:23 AM

The Boston Red Sox plan to meet with David Price on Thursday to determine the next step for the left-hander after he allowed six runs (three earned) in less than four innings for Triple-A Pawtucket.

John Farrell said a scout liked what he saw from Price, but the next step hasn't yet been determined.

"We have to sit with him and talk about what's best for him, what's best for us, going forward," Farrell said.

Price was making his second rehab start as he recovers from an elbow injury. He threw 89 pitches before being lifted with two outs in the fourth inning.

He left the stadium without speaking to the media, according to Pawtucket officials.

David Price To Throw One More Rehab Start

May 20, 2017 8:41 PM

David Price is scheduled to make one more minor league rehab start with Triple-A Pawtucket on Wednesday before he rejoins the Boston Red Sox to make his long-awaited season debut.

Manager John Farrell said he and Price spoke by phone Saturday morning and agreed that one more start would be best as the left-hander works back from a strained pitching elbow.

Price pitched Friday night in Buffalo, New York, then returned to Boston and was working out at Fenway Park on Saturday.

Price is expected throw a light bullpen session Sunday after Farrell said he "threw long-toss aggressively" during Saturday's session.
