Moyer Gets 250th Win Against Nats
Phillies pitcher Jamie Moyer won the 250th game of his long Major League career on Sunday afternoon.
Philadelphia defeated Washington 4-2, with Moyer pitching six innings of one-run ball.
Moyer is just the eleventh left-hander to accomplish the feat.
He threw 102 pitches, allowing three hits and striking out four batters. Moyer is 4-5 on the season, and has 23 years of Major League experience.
Wang Pitches Three Innings; ERA Is 16.07
Yankees pitcher Chien-Ming Wang pitched three scoreless innings against the Indians on Sunday afternoon, reducing his ERA to 16.07 on the season.
Wang threw 42 pitches in the appearance, allowing three hits and walking just one. He struck out three Cleveland batters, and kept a majority of balls in the infield.
His ERA was 34.50 at the end of April.
Peavy To Make Scheduled Start Tuesday
Padres pitcher Jake Peavy will make his scheduled start on Tuesday against the Phillies despite right ankle tendinitis.
San Diego manager Bud Black said Sunday that Peavy's ankle problem has improved.
Black said that Peavy "feels confident it's not going to affect him." He added that "it's always great to have that caliber of pitcher making his start."
Francona Juggles Boston's Struggling Lineup
Red Sox manager Terry Francona juggled the team's lineup for Sunday's game against the Blue Jays.
Heading into the game, Boston had lost three of their last four games.
Francona dropped Jacoby Ellsbury to eighth and put Dustin Pedroia at the leadoff spot.
"We're a little bit in between on our lineup," said Francona. "Sometimes when you don't score you can look at a lot of things. It's a little bit easy to get mixed up so I just like to sit back and think, 'OK, what can help us?' without forgetting, 'what can hurt us?' "
Twins Will Keep Liriano In Starting Rotation
The Twins have decided to keep Francisco Liriano in their starting rotation despite his recent struggles.
Liriano, who is just 2-7 on the season, lasted just four innings against the Rays on Saturday.
Minnesota manager Rod Gardenhire said that the team will likely review Liriano's performance after a few more starts.
"I'm definitely not ready to send Frankie to the minor leagues and I'm not ready to send him to the bullpen right now," Twins manager Ron Gardenhire said Sunday. "We'll just see how it all goes. I'd love to see Frankie just get going in the rotation."
Items Stolen From Ted Williams Auction
Ted Williams' fishing license and notes on local fishing holes have been stolen during an auction preview, according to the Associated Press.
The auction was taking place in New Hampshire.
Auctioneer John Pappas told the New Hampshire Sunday News that the items could have fetched $1,000 or more at Saturday's auction.
UNC's Ackley Could Be Second Pick
Many regard North Carolina shortstop Dustin Ackley as the best hitting prospect in the country.
The Nationals are expected to take Stephen Strasburg, which would leave Ackley for the Mariners, who have the second overall pick.
"Everyone is saying, 'It's Strasburg and everyone else,' " Baseball America's Jim Callis said. "It's Strasburg, and the clear No. 2 is Ackley."
Indians Place Sizemore On 15-Day DL
The Indians have placed center fielder Grady Sizemore on the 15-day disabled list because of inflammation in his left elbow.
Sizemore is hitting .223 with nine homers, 31 RBI and 29 runs in 49 games, and has struggled with elbow discomfort for most of the season.
NCAA: Texas Beats BC In 25 Innings
Texas walked off the field victorious after beating Boston College 3-2 in 25 innings on Saturday night in the longest game in NCAA history, according to an Associated Press report.
?Every inning, we felt like we had a chance to win it,? Texas second baseman Travis Tucker said. ?And every inning, we thought we were going to win it. It ended up happening in the 25th.?
Tucker?s RBI single with one out in the top of the inning helped Texas put an end to the game that eclipsed the previous record of 23 innings, set in 1971 when Louisiana-Lafayette defeated McNeese State.
Texas reliever Austin Wood pitched 13 innings, including 12 1-3 of no-hit ball before allowing a two-out single to Tony Sanchez in the 19th.
O's Wieters Rips Triple For First Hit
Orioles catcher Matt Wieters recorded his first Major League hit in the fifth inning on Saturday night.
Wieters launched a 2-1 pitch over Detroit center fielder Curtis Granderson's head and made a triple his first base knock.
"I do have the ball," Wieters said. "It's something that I'll keep with me for a long time."
Wieters followed that up with a double in his next at-bat.
