Encarnacion Matches AL Record With 16th HR

Sep 18, 2014 6:38 PM

Edwin Encarnacion hit two more home runs on Thursday night, giving him 16 in the month of May.

Encarnacion tied Mickey Mantle's American League record for May home runs. He is just one shy of Barry Bonds' Major League record (17).

He also matched a Major League record with his fifth multi-homer game in a month. Albert Belle did it in September 1995 and Harmon Killebrew in May 1959.

"I don't know where it goes down in history, but it's pretty historic in my mind," John Gibbons said.

Weaver Asks To Be Taken Out Against Blue Jays

Sep 15, 2014 6:11 PM

Jered Weaver did something he's never done before on Sunday against the Toronto Blue Jays, he asked out of a game.

Weaver improved to 4-0 with a 1.71 ERA in his past four starts. He allowed one run and four hits in 6 1/3 innings, walked two and struck out five.

"I thought he mixed and matched," Mike Scioscia said. "He definitely went through a tough lineup. His ability to locate and change speeds got him through most of the game."

When Weaver's ability to locate started to fade, the right-hander stunned teammates by telling pitching coach Mike Butcher that it was time to turn to the bullpen.

"I just couldn't get over the hump there in the seventh," Weaver said. "I didn't have any command of the fastball."

Morrow May Have Thrown Final Pitch For Blue Jays

Dec 12, 2014 11:32 AM

Brandon Morrow has a torn tendon sheath in his right index finger and has been placed on the 60-day disabled list.

If the tendon doesn't heal on it's own, Morrow would have to undergo season-ending surgery.

The Toronto Blue Jays hold a $10 million club option on the right-hander for 2015 with a $1 million buyout. It seems highly unlikely that the option would be exercised.

Buehrle Leads MLB With Just 15.8 Seconds Between Pitches

May 27, 2014 1:34 AM

Mark Buehrle throws a pitch every 15.8 seconds, more than two seconds quicker than the next fastest Major League pitcher.

The length of baseball games has been a hot topic of conversation in recent years.

"You see guys get in the batter's box," Buehrle said.

"They listen to their song for 20 minutes. They don't swing the bat and they have to step out and tighten their batting gloves and do their stuff. I don't like sitting on the bench for a four-hour game when I'm not pitching, I'll tell you that much. When you're sitting there in between your start, looking at the scoreboard, looking at the clock, saying, 'Holy [expletive], this is ridiculous.' I know how fans feel."
