Rangers Haven't Had Serious Extension Talks With Darvish, Lucroy

Jan 2, 2017 8:43 AM

The Texas Rangers have yet to engage in serious talks with Yu Darvish or Jonathan Lucroy on possible contract extensions, according to Jon Daniels.

Texas has had "informal" talks with Lucroy and Daniels says the team will explore new deals with both players as Opening Day gets closer.

"We will sit down and talk to them but haven't yet and that's by design with so much going on," Daniels said.

Rangers Haven't Ruled Out Signing Edwin Encarnacion

Dec 16, 2016 9:55 AM

Jon Daniels says the Texas Rangers haven't ruled out signing Edwin Encarnacion.

"It's got to be the right situation to do it," Daniels told MLB Network Radio.

Encarnacion, considered the best hitter on the free agent market, has hit 30-plus home runs in five straight seasons.

The Rangers watched Mitch Moreland, their primary first baseman in 2016, sign with the Boston Red Sox.

Encarnacion was believed to be seeking $80 million earlier this offseason, but the market hasn't played out as expected.

Josh Hamilton To Work Out For Rangers Before Christmas

Dec 15, 2016 6:53 AM

The Texas Rangers are planning to watch Josh Hamilton work out before Christmas.

If he looks good, the Rangers will consider signing Hamilton to a minor league contract.

Hamilton was released by the Rangers in late August in a procedural move.

He still has one year remaining on the five-year, $125 million contract he signed prior to the 2013 season (the Los Angeles Angels are on the hook for nearly all of his 2017 salary). If Texas had waited to release him until after the season and then re-signed him to a minor league deal, Hamilton would've been ineligible to play in the major leagues with Texas until May 15 of next year.
