Rangers Shut Down Jurickson Profar

Sep 26, 2014 10:37 PM

The Texas Rangers are shutting down Jurickson Profar for a few months in an effort to rehab his right shoulder to get it right before the 2015 season.

Profar has missed the entire season with tear in his teres muscle in his right shoulder.

"Bottom line is we've gone down a similar path before and definitely a level of frustration that we haven't been able to get better answers and to get him back to this point," Jon Daniels said. "This is based on everyone we've consulted with and Jurickson's feeling and preference that he can strengthen his shoulder on his own through a rehab process this is what we think is the best course of action right now."

Daniels said surgery isn't an option right now because there are no guarantees that surgery will fix the problem. Profar hurt the shoulder for the first time in 2010 diving back to a base. He aggravated it again in winter ball last year.

Rangers Unlikely To Include Gallo In Big Trade

Oct 31, 2014 3:03 PM

The Texas Rangers should be able to turn things around with a healthy roster next season, but they also need two starting pitchers, a righthanded power bat and maybe even a catcher.

The Rangers have the prospects to put together a trade for someone like Cole Hamels or Johnny Cueto, but teams will ask for third baseman Joey Gallo, and even with Adrian Beltre, Texas is unlikely to put with him.

Gallo hit 42 home runs in the minor leagues this season.

Sep 25, 2014 9:26 PM

Former Rangers manager Ron Washington said Thursday that he resigned earlier this month because he was "not true to my wife."

"I was not true to my wife after 42 years," Washington said as his wife, Gerry, sat nearby during the news conference. "I broke her trust. I'm here today to own that mistake and apologize to her.

"... Today, I'm at a very low time in my life. I'm sorry for breaking the trust that I had with my wife and for disappointing my players, for disappointing my coaches, for disappointing Major League Baseball and for disappointing the Texas Rangers."

Rangers Officially Shut Down Yu Darvish

Oct 14, 2014 10:05 AM

With just three weeks left in the regular season, the Texas Rangers have officially shut down Yu Darvish.

Darvish will not pitch again this season.

"That would be silly on our part," Jon Daniels said of allowing the right-hander to pitch. "There's just not much to be gained from it at this point."

Darvish last pitched on Aug. 9 and has been on the 15-day disabled list since with right elbow inflammation.

Washington Resigns As Manager Of Rangers

Sep 23, 2014 6:58 AM

Ron Washington has surprisingly resigned as manager of the Texas Rangers.

"Today, I have submitted my resignation from the job I love - managing the Rangers -- in order to devote my full attention to addressing an off-the-field personal matter," Washington said in a statement.

"As painful as it is, stepping away from the game is what's best for me and my family.

"This is in no way related to the disappointing performance of the team this season. We were already discussing 2015 and looking forward to getting the Rangers back to postseason contention."

The Rangers, plagued by injuries this season, have the worst record in baseball at 53-87.

Tim Bogar will be the interim manager for the remainder of the season.

In 2009, Washington tested positive for cocaine and was subjected to random drug testing. Washington begged for forgiveness and even offered to resign but then-team president Nolan Ryan stuck with him.
