Several Clubs Interested In Brian Dozier

Jan 2, 2017 8:28 AM

Coming off a season in which he set the AL record for home runs by a second baseman, Brian Dozier has been the center of trade talks since the Winter Meetings. The Dodgers have been in talks with the Twins to try and acquire his services, but Darren Wolfson of 5 Eyewitness News in Minnesota reports Los Angeles is not alone.

The Cardinals have joined the Dodgers as a team that is "very much" in the running to land Dozier, according to Wolfson, who added the Nationals and Giants also "remain in dialogue" with the Twins.

Giants May Wait Until Next Winter To Extend Madison Bumgarner

Dec 13, 2016 1:46 PM

Madison Bumgarner is the lowest-paid pitcher in the San Francisco Giants' starting rotation and the club has been open to contract options with the three-time World Series champion.

Bumgarner, 27, could have been a free agent this winter but instead he's due $11.5 million in 2017 and the Giants have club options worth $12 million for both 2018 and 2019. He signed a five-year, $35.56 million deal in 2012.

"If I were the club, I would go to the player and want to get a longer-term deal in place," an agent said. "If I were the player’s representative, I'd want to have a longer-team deal in place that makes sense for both sides."

The Giants could extend Bumgarner's deal, adding three years and $90 million, but they will be over the luxury tax for the third straight year. If they wait until next year, they'll be under the threshold with Matt Cain and perhaps Johnny Cueto off the books.
