Mike Piazza plans to talk with Yoenis Cespedes at New York Mets camp about how to handle being a star in the city.

"I told him that when I talk to him, I'm going to tell him that there's going to be a lot of pressure on him this year. He's going to be expected to do a lot. And I have a little bit of experience knowing that pressure," Piazza said. "And I hope he's able to discipline himself and really refine his strike zone and realize that when the pitchers are not pitching to him, he's got to take his walks. I think you saw that in the World Series a little bit. He just got too anxious and was trying to do too much and was just swinging, trying to hit the ball out of the stadium. I would tell him, 'Look, you don't have to hit the ball out of the stadium. You just have to hit it over the wall. Or hit it off the wall is fine.' That happens sometimes.

"Here's a kid, he came from Cuba. He grew up completely different than what we did. So handling all that and coming to the States, it's culturally different for him. I think we need to be patient and understand."

Matt Harvey hasn't ruled out agreeing to a long-term contract extension with the New York Mets before he hits free agency.

"I think whatever comes up is going to come up," Harvey said. "I've never shied away from it. I've never said I wouldn't consider it. But I haven't heard anything considering that."

Harvey is under team control through the 2018 season.

Sandy Alderson indicated earlier this month that there were no current talks about extensions, but that it could come up during the spring.

The Giants and Cubs are a notch above the rest of the National League, while the American League is wide-open, according to season win-total expectations released Thursday by the sportsbook at the Atlantis Casino in Reno, Nevada.

The Giants are the only team to open with a win total of 90. They are followed closely by the Cubs at 89 and the Mets at 88.

Mets pitcher Jenrry Mejia made baseball history Friday, becoming the first player to be permanently suspended by Major League Baseball after testing positive again for a performance-enhancing substance.

MLB said Mejia tested positive for boldenone, which athletes have used to increase muscle mass and once was popular for use in horse racing, and that he is also is permanently suspended from playing minor league baseball.

It marked his third positive PED test in the past year, resulting in the lifetime expulsion.

Already banned at three Major League stadiums, a bill will be introduced Friday that would make smokeless tobacco off limits at Citi Field, Yankee Stadium and other public arenas in New York City's five boroughs.

AT&T Park in San Francisco, Dodger Stadium in Los Angeles and Fenway Park in Boston have already banned smokeless tobacco.

"If New York passes this bill, and I think it will, it moves us dramatically closer to the day when smokeless tobacco is prohibited in all major league cities," said Matthew Myers, the president of Campaign for Tobacco-Free Kids, a Washington advocacy group.

The New York Mets have avoided arbitration with Jeurys Familia by agreeing to a one-year, $4.1 million deal.

Familia asked for $4.8 million and the Mets originally countered with $3.3 million.
