Carlos Gomez OK After Collision With Braun

Sep 18, 2014 7:10 AM

Carlos Gomez says his neck is OK after he had to leave Saturday night's game against the Colorado Rockies following a collision in the outfield with Ryan Braun.

Gomez suffered a neck strain. He was scared initially after feeling a tingling sensation throughout his body. He had a headache and sore neck, but passed a concussion test.

He was not in the starting lineup for the Milwaukee Brewers on Sunday.

Gomez also hurt his head Friday night after sliding headfirst into second and glancing off second baseman Josh Rutledge's leg.

"We have extra players, so we decided to have a day after I [got] hit twice in the head," Gomez said. "Everything is fine. The neck is OK."

Only Eight First-Round Picks Are Unsigned, Without Agreement

Sep 20, 2014 2:21 AM

A little more than two weeks have gone by since the first round of the 2014 First-Year Player Draft was held on June 5 in New Jersey.

The deadline for draft picks to sign contracts is July 18, but a majority of the selections have either signed or already come to agreement on deals with their new clubs. Of the 34 players taken in the first round, 26 have either begun or will soon begin their professional baseball careers.

Brady Aiken, the first overall pick, agreed to terms with the Houston Astros on a contract leading up to the draft and arrived in Houston on Monday to make things official.

Seven of the eight players that remain unsigned are pitchers. All eight players were selected out of college.

Carlos Rodon, who the Chicago White Sox took third overall, is the highest pick without a deal in place.

Jeff Hoffman (9th, Toronto), Max Pentecost (11th, Toronto), Tyler Beede (14th, San Francisco), Sean Newcomb (15th, L.A. Angels), Brandon Finnegan (17th, Kansas City), Erick Fedde (18th, Washington) and Nick Howard (19th, Cincinnati) are the other seven picks without contracts.

Morales Expected To Sign Soon After Draft

Nov 28, 2014 3:25 AM

Kendrys Morales is expected to sign with a team in the coming days.

The Seattle Mariners, New York Yankees and Milwaukee Brewers have been linked to Morales, who is tied to draft pick compensation. A team won't have to surrender a compensatory pick to Seattle if they sign Morales after Thursday night's first round.

The Texas Rangers are also believed to have interest in Morales.
