Milwaukee Brewers general manager Doug Melvin said the threat was turned over to Major League Baseball security. He said the team was told the situation had been "handled."

Davis says he got the threat in mid-May when the Brewers were in Chicago to play the Cubs. He referred to the matter as a "distraction."

Braun Receives Support After Base-Running Blunder

Sep 18, 2014 9:06 AM

Ron Roenicke came to Ryan Braun's defense Sunday after a baserunning blunder cost the Milwaukee Brewers a run in a narrow loss to the Miami Marlins the day before.

Carlos Gomez was thrown out at third base trying to advance from first on a single for the final out of the sixth inning, which prevented Braun from scoring from second on the play.

Braun was several feet from crossing the plate when Gomez was tagged out. After the game, Gomez said Braun should have run harder and scored.

"I saw the replays, and Braun wasn't going to score," Roenicke said. "If he goes 100 percent, it's probably going to be a little closer at home plate, but he was still quite a ways away."

Weeks is making $11 million in the final year of his contract.

He looks better offensively this season, hitting .318 with a .739 OPS in 48 plate appearances.

The St. Louis Cardinals and Baltimore Orioles appear to be the best fits for the infielder.
