* Note: Players in bold are my picks in tiers 3 and below to outperform their ADPs.

Following suit from most years, first base runs quite deep this season, albeit with differing levels of quality. Paul Goldschmidt could conceivably go first overall in your league, while the tier 2 group should be selected in the back half of round 1 through the top half of round 2. Tier 3 boasts solid names as well, but with more questions, whether the concern being power, health, consistency, etc. Such issues only escalate as you drop further down in tiers.

A few guys I’ve highlighted as value buys here are Prince Fielder and Mitch Moreland, who both call Arlington home. Fielder had a solid bounce back year in 2015, and while his 35 HR days likely sit in the rear view mirror, there’s no reason he can’t continue to post a batting average north of .300 with 25 home runs. He should be selected higher in drafts, especially in on-base percentage leagues. As for Mitch Moreland, he quietly put together a solid 2015 campaign with a line of .278/23/85 for AVG/HR/RBI, doing so in 132 games. Those are nice numbers, and can be had late in drafts.

With power on the decline across baseball, I recommend grabbing a stud first basemen early in your draft (top 2 tiers), and absolutely no later than tier 3. The tier 4 group has significant risk and should not be relied upon as your primary first baseman.

Grab a stud early, and double up with a tier 3 player or a tier 4/5 guy with upside to supplement your roster.
