The Opsera is a statistic RealGM Executive Editor Chris Reina created in order to objectively rank teams by how well they hit (OPS) and pitch (ERA).

In order to determine the Opsera rating for each, we take their OPS, multiply that number by 10 to move the decimal point over one place to the right and then subtract their ERA from that number.

All statistics are through Sunday, July 6

Rankings from last week are in parenthesizes.

1. (1) Oakland Athletics – 4.19

If you count Jeff Samardzija, the Athletics have seven All-Stars on their roster.

2. (2) Los Angeles Dodgers – 4.13

The Dodgers have the best run differential (+62) in baseball, but have just a .5-game lead in the National League West.

3. (3) Washington Nationals – 3.96

Washington has won seven of their last 10 games, but have actually fallen further back in the NL East thanks to a 9-1 run by Atlanta.

4. (6) Los Angeles Angels – 3.71

The Angels are back, thanks in large part to Mike Trout, who hit .471/.759/1.230 with seven home runs and 21 RBI in the month of June.

5. (5) Detroit Tigers – 3.67

Why baseball is weird: Rick Porcello has been much better than Justin Verlander this week.
