Salvador Perez of the Kansas City Royals and Kyle Gibson of the Minnesota Twins are featured in Wednesday's matchup. Voting will extend through the end of the first round.

Perez enjoyed a breakout 2013 season, hitting .292/.323/.433 with 13 home runs and 79 RBIs in 526 plate appearances. He was a member of the American League All-Star team and earned enough votes to finish 22nd in the MVP race. On top of all that, the catcher took home a Gold Glove.

He has been extremely valuable at the plate and behind it. Only three AL players had more dWAR (2.2) than Perez last season. Two seasons ago, he led the league when he caught 41.9% of base stealers. He caught a league-high 25 runners in 2013.

Rated as the #34 overall prospect by Baseball America prior to the 2011 season, Gibson has taken a while to develop under the tutelage of the Twins. Drafted in the first round in 2009, he made his Major League debut last June at age 25. He made 10 starts as a rookie, posting a 6.53 ERA, 1.745 WHIP and 29 strikeouts in 51 innings.

The right-hander has looked better this season, pitching to a 4.74 ERA and 1.526 WHIP. His strikeout and strikeout-to-walk rates are down, but is keeping the ball in play with fewer home runs. He allowed seven last season, or one per 7.3 innings. Through seven starts, Gibson has allowed just one dinger in 38 innings.
